Pulling Tips
Jul 23rd
Within Azeroth there are many lonely hearts, so I’m here to help out. Ever wondered how to get that sexy little Gnome to notice you? Or perhaps you’d prefer a much more strong, tentacley type? Whatever your type is, I’m sure there is a line in here that could.. *cough* grab their attention.
You can’t go wrong with the classics. Trust me, crude lines may sound funny, but you’ll be leaving with many a red hand/hoof/paw print on your face.
- “Get your cloak, you’ve pulled.”
- “You can be my Guardian Spirit any time.”
- “Do you use Cartographer? I keep getting lost in your eyes.”
- “You must be one hell of a Rogue because you pick pocketed my heart from across the room.”
- “Is there a flight plan nearby, or is that just my heart taking off?”
- “LF1M, party in my pants.”
- “Have you just come from the Stockades? It must be illegal to look that good.”
- “Are those trousers from Outland? Your butt is out of this world.”
- “You’re so sweet, you’re going to put strudel out of business.”
On a small sidenote: there are some really crude and hilarious chat up lines out there! Got anymore?

Screw Burnout, I’ll Play My Warrior
May 1st
So I haven’t stopped playing WoW, despite what my lack of posting might say, I didn’t feel I needed to. Of course, when I grew bored I logged off, but I kept doing things on Fae (mostly dailies and my Zul’Gurub/Attuman soloing) and levelling my Human Warrior, Briella, who is now level 35 and levelling fairly quickly as Arms.
She has been combing through a few zones. I did Duskwood for the first time ever and learnt the joys of stumbling upon elites that enjoy nomming your face around every corner *grumbles* I ran into the skeleton guy 3 times, and the dude in the hat twice. Somebody could have told me that would happen! Aside from the stupid elites, I liked Duskwood, it’s an interesting little zone – I especially loved the Orchard, it’s quite a nightmarish area.
As I level I’m doing a few random dungeons, as I always have done since the implementation of the random dungeon finder tool. Once in a while I’ll get one of those groups, which is when I take over the tanking because I do more threat than the tank and take less damage than the Rogue. Shoo Rogue! I’ve alsohad some nice groups. Last night I was teamed up with a few random people who I stuck with for a little bit, we did 3 instances together before going our separate ways and they were fun, the kind of instance that makes you pine for a cross server friends list. It’s groups like those that really make pugging worth it.
She also seems to have developed a bit of a personality. It’s not much, just the little things that pop up while you play a character really. Briella is a city girl, through and through, and loves her pony – Brian – to bits (sidenote: When she hits 40, I’m grabbing the Brown Steed – Brian with armour!). Despite this, she has chosen to use her skills as a talented Warrior to protect her loved ones, and thus she feels compelled to go out and get her hands dirty, for her parents, for the people of Stormwind, and for her King.

Earth Day Recycling: This Is How I Roll
Apr 22nd
Zelmaru had an idea, to recycle an old post for Earth Day. Now, I don’t really do or think about Earth Day at all, I only knew it was Earth Day because of the pretty logo Google has today. Even so, I do have a post I’d like to recycle because I had a lot of fun writing it back when I was levelling my Warlock, when she was still a female Undead called Hadlo, rather than the Blood Elf called Jaedia that she is today. Only difference is that this time I’m sticking it under the ‘RP’ category rather than ‘alts’.
The name’s Jhuutom, aka Felly the Felguard, aka You Idiot, aka Gordon Ramsay (don’t ask). Fae was feeling rather tired today, so we let her sleep *ahem, hides Nightmare Potion..*
Anyway! I decided to take my warlock for a walk, you may know her as Hadlo, though I do not care too much for the names of lesser beings. As per usual, I was the one doing all of the work while she just used her.. erm.. “damage over time”. Useless. I tell you, by the time she’s cast a Shadow Bolt, I’ve already killed the damn creatures! She could really use some more haste. So, once we’d found a piece of elemental scrap for some odd amulet thing, which she said she needed to do to aid Fae, hell if I care, we took a Windrider back down to the Borean Tundra.
I reminded her that there was a lot of haste on the Nexus gear, you know, that nice stuff from the quests. So, remembering we hadn’t done those yet, we popped over to the Amber Ledge to speak to a few mages and torture a few cultists, after all, who doesn’t love a good evening of torture? On the way, Hadlo thought it would be funny to chain up a cultist and mock him for a while…
You’ll notice that I am uninterested and take no part in this whatsoever. Bloody nuisance bag of bones… She spent so long laughing at this, that she didn’t happen to notice the Alliance warlock and druid hovering around, yes that’s right, she got us killed. Laugh it up. You’ll regret it later.
After they’d buggered off, we made our way over to Coldara island. A place full of whimsical blue dragons and giant magical trees… OF DEATH! I had such a great time running around murdering stuff, and she didn’t even get me killed this time, like that time with that debuff from the spore poison… Ah never mind, but it’s a wonder I still let her claim that I’m her demon. Ha! But hey ho, shit happens, as long as I get to murder stuff without 24 Death Knights and a Ret Paladin grouping up to kill me for Freddy, my lovely, cuddly axe, then I can deal with the rest.
Hadlo also likes to claim that she’s all weak and feeble, in order to get help from her “friends”. Come on, we all know the warlocks don’t have friends, that’s why they’re so close with the darkness, it’s the only thing that really “understands” them *snigger*. Moreover, she knows, deep down, that I could have soloed the place. The blue flight and a few overenthusiastic trees are no match for me. Though these apparent friends came, and they helped, perhaps they’re not so bad, I mean, I guess it gave me a break from doing all of the work for a little while. As such, we got her some more haste gear, perhaps she might actually help me out with some of these quests now.. *more snigger* as if.
Hopefully, Fae will be back next time.. Once the effects of the err.. good night’s sleep has worn off. Until then, suffer well.

A Little Exploration
Mar 26th
Pilf’s Grand Tour is an excellent response to the Explorer Task! I think she is a wonderful writer, do read them all. Mine is a little different and you can see I’m pretty terrible at taking decent screenshots. The first one is Jaedi speaking, the last two are Fae.
Undercity: The Throne Room
This was actually a suggestion from Erc, to go sit in the throne room of the Ruins of Lordaeron and turn up your Ambience and listen. I did.
“Have you ever stopped to listen to the whispers of the past in Lordaeron? The cries of pain, of betrayal.. It brings a tear to my eye. The horrible events that occurred here, in this very room, are the very reason I can’t bring myself to care for or believe in humanity. There will always be betrayal, sadness, and often without reason.” – Jaedi.
It’s easy to forget when you’re going about your daily routine, that Lordaeron was once a thriving kingdom, ruled over by King Terenas Menethil, Arthas’ father. It is haunting when you stop to look around and listen. You can hear different echoes of the past in the various parts of Lordaeron and the bloodstain where Arthas killed his father can still be seen.
Searing Gorge: The Cauldron
“We have encountered and defeated Ragnaros in the past, yet the Cauldron remains as a reminder to us of the evil that is the Dark Iron Dwarves. They surround themselves by lava and worship a God who is too powerful to control? Madness. These are dark times..” – Fae.
Whilst charging around, getting a little more of Loremaster done on my Hunter I had to venture into ‘the Cauldron’ where I can see mechanical structures built into the rocks and a deep quarry. I have to say, though generally I’ve tended to hate this place in the past because it reminds me of BRD wipes and dust, the lore behind it has really won me over. So much that I took my Rogue here to level. The slaves of the Dark Iron down in the Slag Pit have been driven mad by their masters, and we don’t know for certain what they are digging for, it is thought to be Old God or Titan artifacts, but we can’t be certain.
Arathi Highlands: Faldir’s Cove
“I have to swim to this place called.. *checks soaking map* Faldir’s Cove. I’m told that I’ll be able to find a chunk of knowledge I didn’t previously know.. and I have to swim there. My hair’s getting wet, and NomNom really doesn’t like the water. Like there’s going to be anything there anyway, I’ve never heard any talk of… My God, that’s a pirate ship? In Arathi Highlands?! That’s beautiful!” – Fae
I had to check Faldir’s Cove for quests while I was doing Loremaster, because I didn’t believe there were really quests there, I’d never heard of it. Lo and behold there were a few, all granted to you by a crew of treasure hunting pirate gnomes and an ogre. The fact that this place is fairly difficult to get to means that you wouldn’t think about going there unless directed (which you aren’t unless tracking quest givers on Wowhead), which implies that this little spot is forgotten about almost. There are naga to kill and Blackwater Raiders in search of Elven Treasure, not to mention maps from their sunken ships to be able to navigate away. The solitude alone is quite beautiful.

The Explorer Task
Mar 22nd
When I read the blogs of others, and speak to people, I get the idea that a lot of us share the same love: the art of Warcraft. While questing or running about exploring a zone, those of us with this common interest will tend to have one hand on Alt+Z, one hand on Zoom in, followed by a Print Screen or two.
What I propose to you, is to take your character on a journey around Azeroth and Outlands. Some of you may know the lore surrounding these places, some of you may roleplay, some may just like exploring, I don’t expect you all to be involved in these things, but if you have any vague interest in this idea, read on.
I would like to know when you visit a certain area or zone, how your character feels and reacts to their surroundings. Take a few screenshots to share as you go, or if you’d rather not, don’t. It’s entirely upto you how you handle this project. If you don’t RP, you can just put yourself into your character’s shoes and imagine how YOU would feel and react. Take the idea and run away with it. You don’t have to visit every zone, but if you want to, please do. Equally, if you’d rather visit zones I haven’t listed, please do! If you don’t have time to visit the zones but would like to join in anyway, that’s also fine! However you want to interpret this idea in a way that suits you.
List of areas to visit, you can use these or think of your own. I’ve tried to vary it a little; if you’d like to, include a little bit of your character here, think about the sights, smells, sounds, feel of surroundings, reactions, emotions.
- The Caverns of Time: portal there or walk from Tanaris, take the dragon down or walk. You don’t need to head into the instances, but do take a look at the portal entrances.
- The Hinterlands: Seradane, the little bit North across the bridge.
- The Plaguelands: Either/or. Perhaps the little village South of EPL, where Pamela Redpath resides. You can explore little areas or the entire zone.
- Crystalsong Forest: Visit the ruins, the giant crystallised tree, the Great Tree.
- A City: Any city of your choice. Probably Orgrimmar or Stormwind, but perhaps there is somewhere else you’d prefer to take a trip to.
- Winterspring: The hot springs? Lake Kel’Theril? Darkwhisper Gorge?
- Feralas: The Twin Colossals in the North.
- Felwood: The Iron Tree Woods. Shatter Scar Vale.
- Nagrand: The floating rocks.
All I ask for, if you choose to join in, is a pingback or comment on this post so that I can see your responses. Remember, this idea is open to interpretation, so have fun!

Roleplay: Getting Started
Mar 18th
A couple of nights back I was hanging around Dustwallow Marsh on Jaedi, my rogue on Argent Dawn. I was finishing off a few quests, glancing at guild chat and I noticed a couple of people were sharing their FlagRSP descriptions, how they want it to relate to their backstory and characters’ personality, and giving each other feedback. In that moment, Jaedi the Snobby Thief was born.
Some of you might read this and scoff, I can think of at least 3 of you who might, but ever since I started playing WoW 3 and a half years ago, and found out about the different types of servers (when I first started, I didn’t understand what ‘PvP’ and ‘PvE’ meant, I’d participated in a little by email story telling style roleplay in my teenage years so I knew what RP was, but nobody had really explained the different types of servers and what they’re individually like to me) I wanted to try roleplay in World of Warcraft. The creation of Single Abstract Noun on Argent Dawn (RP) has given me the perfect opportunity to try it.
The first place I started, really, was chatting to the guys in guild who were already on RP servers, getting a few tips. The first I received was about FlagRSP, a mod enabling you to add a small character description, available for others with the same mod to see, allocating a few physical details about your character and perhaps hinting to a part of their personality, without forcing ideas on people too much.
Next, I delved into a few blogs I know of. I’ll admit, in the past I’ve been pretty awful at reading RP related posts, but God damnit I’m going through archives now. Initially, I’m reading the ‘beginners guide to RP’ type posts, because I guess that’s all I really need to know, just to pick up a few tips from people who have been roleplaying for a while. A few I’ve found, which you should read and love if you haven’t already. Okay, some aren’t posts so much as archives I found interesting:
- The Physician’s Log: Developing a Character: No Backstory Required!
- Too Many Annas: RP Fears and First Steps
- Too Many Annas: Initiating RP
- Too Many Annas: Roleplaying Resources
- Lorecrafted: Character Lore, Guild Lore, and Server Lore
- Through the Eyes of Death: Playing With Yourself
- WTT: [RP]: RP Workshop
- Achtung Panzercow: Roleplay (a few memes I may take advantage of)
- Going Bearfoot: In Which There Was A Lot Of Pondering
- Fail PUG!: Introduction to Roleplaying, part 1, part 2, part 3, part 4
- WoW.com: Ten Commandments of Roleplaying
- Dramatis Personae: Lore and Character Building
- RP Made Simple: Race Notes
- WoWWiki: Life Spans
- The Mana Obscura: So You’re a Roleplayer?
- Blogatelle: Archive
And I know some of these might sound a tad dodgy but they aren’t, I’ve read them all and don’t worry, I won’t be attempting any kind of relationship RP, or ERP, so there is none of that here. I am in a relationship in the real world and although RP is only acting, it would still feel wrong. This includes flirting. I respect people who do embark upon roleplaying relationships between characters, heck, I understand entirely. It is one depth my characters will never have though, not while I’m acting them.
The next place I will look into is creating my character. I threw together a few words while I was half asleep the other night, which I will be going over and improving (I’m a bit of a perfectionist at times, I’m never happy with my own ideas). She has a vague backstory, a small character description plopped into FlagRSP, and I’m thinking of taking her down the Thief route rather than Assassin, as I do love Pickpocketing and Lockpicking! I’m also eyeing up some pieces of gear I’d like to get hold of later on when she’s higher level, which I will take note of, and I will be playing with it in WoW Model Viewer.
The roleplay aspect of WoW is entirely new to me, and it’s giving me a new focus on the game at present. I’m enjoying just the idea so much that I’ve even given Fae, my main, a vague personality, who happens to be on a PvP server, born and bred, so she might never even get a chance to use it. The next task is to actually get involved in a little RP, throw my character out there and see how people respond, I think that is the fun part of it, creating a character and seeing how others react to her and how a story can develop. Squee!

How Not To RP
Mar 7th
You may have realised by now that Argent Dawn is in fact an RP server. The first time I entered Silvermoon City, there were people slowly walking around like NPCs, talking to each other in Thalassian, it really does feel like another world entirely coming from a PvP server.
The other night, I believe it was Friday, we ventured into Silvermoon to check out the RP surroundings. It was funny! Of course, we stood around messing about, giggling away, and a rogue pops up and joins in. I felt a little sorry for him, he seemed to be making a genuine attempt to RP with us and was met with Sith’s remarks. If I’m honest, I think he was laughing at us.
There are the right ways to RP, and the wrong ways to RP, and I believe I’ve picked up a few tips:
- (( )) = Out of character.
- Don’t use smileys, and remember that if you bump into somebody your character hasn’t come across before, they wouldn’t know their name.
- FlagRSP (RP mod) shouldn’t be used for back story, just things you can visibly see looking at a character, the aesthetics.
- And stay away from de voodoo ‘mon’.
The things people do at crazy hours of the morning, eh?
Sunday Link Love
I can’t possibly link love all of the awesome bloggers I’ve come across this week, but a very dear friend of mine has come over to the dark side. Not only has he enrolled in Single Abstract Noun but he’s caved in and started his own blog. Go over and say hello to Zalduun at Blessing of Fish!

Ingame Relationships
Jan 22nd
@Warcraft on Twitter grabbed my attention this morning:
#WoW players in love got married and the bride wore the same wedding dress in-game and in real life
At first glance it doesn’t sound like such an interesting story, these things happen all the time. Though of course my curiosity got the better of me and I had to click the link provided to have a look, the dress is really pretty and it’s a lovely story. I’d post the image here but that’s a little unfair, so take a look here.
It’s not the only relationship I’ve seen develop from this game, as I said these things happen all the time. My own relationship started in my priest’s first raiding guild, we got talking and realised that we just clicked. We went through an arduous long distance relationship, though nothing compared to some I have seen, it was a 7 hour train journey for us. Eventually we moved in together and we’ve been together for little over 2 years now. I’ve seen several friends ingame hook up with people they play with, and I’ve heard plenty of stories to make you go ‘aww’.
When I first started playing WoW, I heard of ingame weddings and people forming relationships, and in all honesty I did think they were idiots. How on Earth can you know you love somebody until you meet? Well, I was wrong, though I still find online weddings to freak me out a little, I understand them on RP servers. It just goes to show that the internet isn’t completely full of crazy axe murderers
